TNS Group and our research partner, University of Waterloo Engineering, are pleased to announce the launch of five new tools to help municipalities improve their Road Safety Network Screening. This project was undertaken with funding from Transport Canada through the Enhanced Road Safety Transfer Payment Program.
According to the Highway Safety Manual, the Road Safety Management process begins with Network Screening -- identifying network locations that have design or operations issues that result in high number of collisions. Although of fundamental importance, Network Screening can be subject to statistical inaccuracies, must be updated regularly, and are reactive rather than proactive since they rely on collisions occurring.
The research team has developed novel methods in five areas to improve Network Screening and is making these tools available through a project website.
